What the numbers mean

Every number in TraffiCure, defined once. You’ll see these underlined across the help; hover for the short version.

Segment
A stretch of road between two junctions, in one direction. Everything is measured per segment. e.g. Apar Kharadi Road Junction → Wagholi
Corridor
A longer road made of several segments, analysed as one. e.g. Wagholi → Kesnand
Free-flow speed
How fast traffic moves on a segment when the road is empty. e.g. 30 km/h on a busy city arterial
Typical speed
The usual speed for a segment at this hour and day, learned from weeks of history. e.g. A new road needs a few weeks before it has one
Delay
Extra time to drive a segment or route compared with normal. e.g. +17m means 17 minutes longer than usual
Travel time
How long it takes to drive the segment or route right now. e.g. 21 min now against 4 min typical
Congestion factor
How many times slower than normal. 2× means trips take twice as long. e.g. 4.8× slower
Congestion %
Share of an area's roads that are congested. e.g. 40% = four in ten roads are jammed
Delay %
How much longer trips take in an area than at free flow, as a share of the free-flow travel time. e.g. +151% at 6 PM: trips take about 2.5 times as long as on a clear road
Disruption
A reported event: crash, flood, fog, construction, lane closure, object on the road or a stalled vehicle.
Zone
An area of the city: a named locality, or an equal-sized hexagon so areas compare fairly. e.g. Koregaon Park Annexe
Locality
A named area of the city, such as a neighbourhood or ward. Area Analysis ranks them. e.g. Shivaji Nagar, Baner, Khadki
Approach
A road leading into a junction. A junction with four arms has at least four approaches. e.g. Bakori Road → Wagholi
Flow
Vehicles passing a point on the road per hour, estimated from movement data. e.g. 6,155 vehicles an hour
Recurring or one-off
Recurring: slow at the same time most days, so fix it with planning. One-off: caused by an event, so fix it with a response.
Resolved
An alert whose road is back to normal. It moves from Active to Resolved on its own.
Travel time index (TTI)
Actual travel time divided by free-flow travel time. 1.0 is empty roads; 1.5 means trips take 50% longer. e.g. 1.69 at 11 AM
Planning time index (PTI)
How much time to allow, compared with free flow, to arrive on time 95% of the time. e.g. PTI 1.7 = allow 1.7× the free-flow time
Buffer time index (BTI)
Extra time to add to an average trip to be on time 95% of the time. e.g. BTI 0.4 = add 40%
Congested km
Total length of road that is congested at a given moment. e.g. 224 km across the city
Congestion index
A 0–1 score of how congested the network is overall. e.g. 0.34 at the worst hour
Morning and evening peak
The busiest windows of the day: 8–11 AM and 5–8 PM by default.
Reliability
How predictable a trip is. A reliable route takes about the same time every day.
