How TraffiCure works

One idea runs through the whole product: every road is compared with what’s normal for it, every two minutes. Here’s one real road in Pune, near Wagholi, going through the system on a weekday morning.

1 · Measure

Every road, every 2 minutes

Anonymised speeds from phones on Google Maps, for every segment.

4 km/h
2 · Compare

Against what’s normal

Now vs the typical speed for this hour and the free-flow speed.

Now4 km/h
Free flow30 km/h
3 · Alert

Slower than normal? Alert.

It opens within minutes and closes when speed recovers.

4 · Roll up

Into areas, junctions and reports

Segments add up to localities, junctions, routes, weeks of history and a briefing every morning.

Good to know

  • Everything is measured per segment: a stretch of road between two junctions, in one direction.
  • New roads need a few weeks before a typical speed exists. Until then, TraffiCure compares with free flow.
  • The clock top-right is the city’s local time.

What it isn’t

  • Not cameras. It sees how traffic moves, not number plates.
  • Not second-by-second. Two minutes is fast for people, not for signal control.
  • Quiet roads at night can have gaps, for privacy.
